9 WAYS TO CELEBRATE SPRING WHEN RETIRING
Spring Has Sprung. Time to Have Some Fun! Spring is a time of rebirth and revival, full of new possibilities
How are you planning to celebrate springtime this year? Here are our top 9 ways to celebrate the first days of spring.
1. Listen to classical music that celebrates Spring
What better way to celebrate spring? Listen to beautiful music. Antonio Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” is one of the most popular and most recognized pieces of classical music in the world. We’re sure you’ve heard it.
2. Pick Spring wildflowers and use them in a craft project
Make a pretty bookmark using pressed flowers. If they’re blooming where you live, take a walk, gather some pretty flowers and press your flowers between two sheets of wax paper in a book for a while, then make bookmarks to give as gifts.
3. Splash in a puddle Make spring rolls
When’s the last time you’ve jumped up and down in a puddle?
This may be one of the most fun ways to celebrate spring. If it happens to be raining on the first day of spring, pull on a pair of boots and go splash in a puddle!
What do you have to lose? Wear something washable, put your prim and proper training on the back burner, find a nice, big puddle, go wading and have some fun! There’s just something about splashing that frees the spirit, don’t you think? You’re never too old to have some Spring fun!
4. Make spring rolls
Celebrate spring by spending some springtime in the kitchen trying this great new recipe. Spring Rolls are a fabulous, crunchy appetizer, and great fun to make too.
Springtime is a great time to try something new. Perhaps you’ve tasted spring rolls but never tried to make them yourself, or perhaps you’ve never had spring rolls. This is something that the entire family can enjoy together and have loads of fun.
5. Spring cleaning is for the birds
We usually concentrate on spring cleaning indoors, but bird baths and bird feeders need attention, too.
Let’s get back outdoors. Soon, the birds will be back in your yard looking for food and lodging. Make sure your birdhouses, bird feeders, and birdbaths are in tip-top condition now before the height of springtime bird travel season.
6. Plan a garden, then plant a garden.
One of the best parts of spring is the arrival of the growing season – and the gardening catalogues that come in the mail. Have you planned your garden? Celebrate the first day of spring with a selection of catalogues and a garden planning book.
The cold weather may have kept you inside but now’s the time to don those gardening gloves and head outdoors. Spring gardening activities can include feeding your plants and lawn, doing any necessary pruning, weeding and planting, and doing a general garden clean up.
7. Spring outside
Take advantage of beautiful spring days by heading outdoors – visit the park, have a picnic, take the dog for a walk, or simply spend a few minutes boosting your vitamin D levels in the spring sunshine. Spring is also a great time to get more active.
8. Spring clean
Start packing away your heavy winter coats and jerseys and bring out some of your lighter garments. The weather can still be somewhat unpredictable in spring, so opt to layer clothing so you can take off items or put them back on depending on the temperature.
9. Have a braai
There’s nothing quite like a South African braai to welcome the warmer weather. Invite a few friends over, whip up a delicious salad, throw some meat (and braai broodjies) onto the grill, and enjoy the time spent outdoors.
